Next-Day Mood Improvement After Asynchronous Text-Based Coaching on a Mobile Mental Health Platform in Singapore and Malaysia
New Peer-Reviewed Evidence: 30 Minutes of Coaching, a Next-Day Mood Shift

In a four-year, real-world dataset of corporate employees across Singapore and Malaysia, users who engaged in at least 30 minutes of asynchronous coaching showed a large, statistically significant improvement in mood the very next day one of the first peer-reviewed evaluations of a digital mental health platform to come out of Southeast Asia.
Key Findings
  • 0.786 mean mood improvement
    Observation-level, day-pairs (SD 0.873, P < .001, d = 0.901)
  • 0.763 mean mood improvement
    User-level, the study's primary analysis (SD 0.806, P < .001, d = 0.948)
  • 55.4% of users
Showed net mood improvement after a single ≥30-minute coaching engagement
  • No dose-response beyond 30 minutes
Engagement-time quartiles showed no further gain (ANOVA P = .609), a threshold effect, not a continuous dose
Results
The 30-minute mark functions as a qualifying threshold, not a dial to turn up. Once users cross it, mood improvement the next day is large and consistent, but coaching longer than 30 minutes didn't produce a proportionally larger effect. For operators and HR leaders, that reframes "engagement" away from maximizing minutes and toward simply getting users to a meaningful first session.

An exploratory secondary finding: across the most common day-1 mood states, users presenting as "drained" showed the smallest next-day improvement, a signal (not yet confirmatory) that fatigue-driven states may need a different intervention design than acute stress or sadness.
